The Floridan Aquifer produces genuinely good water — it's why this region's springs are famous. But good source water still picks up character on the way to your tap. Dissolved iron is the big one locally: invisible in the glass, then oxidizing into the orange-brown stains on fixtures, driveways and laundry. Hydrogen sulfide — the rotten-egg smell, usually worse on the hot side — comes from harmless naturally occurring bacteria interacting with the aquifer's chemistry. Hardness is a given in limestone country. And sediment shows up where older wells or tired pumps stir up what should stay settled.
None of these usually means unsafe water. What they mean is stained fixtures, smelly showers, shortened appliance life, and — the part that brings it into our lane — accelerated wear on the pump and pressure system. Iron-abraded impellers and clogged screens are pump killers on a five-to-ten-year fuse.
Matching the fix to the water is the whole game, which is why testing comes first. Light iron often falls to a properly configured water softener doing double duty. Heavier iron wants a dedicated iron filter. Sulfur smell typically responds to aeration or oxidizing filtration, and sometimes a straightforward well chlorination knocks it down for a long stretch at a fraction of the cost of equipment. Sediment is usually a cheap cartridge filter — or a sign of a well problem that filtration would only mask, which is a thing we'll tell you rather than sell around.
